From scientific minds to your dashboard: How the September conference on Alzheimer's disease shaped the new Mentem

We want to take you on a brief recap back to last September. That was when our team set off for an international conference organised by the Slovak Alzheimer Society. It was there that the final decision was made about what mental fitness in your hands would look like today.

What did we go to ask the experts? (Or: prevention first)

The main theme of the September talks and our discussions with specialists was cognitive reserve and early prevention of Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia. Leading scientists agree on three key pillars that keep the human mind functioning well into old age:

  1. Training must not be repetitive: If you have been doing the same type of crossword for 10 years, the brain runs on autopilot and does not develop. It constantly needs new, adaptive challenges.

  2. All cognitive functions must be developed: Training memory alone is not enough. Attention, processing speed, spatial orientation, and logical thinking all need equal care. Consistency is key: Neuroplasticity (the brain's ability to build new neural connections) only responds to daily stimuli. A one-off session once every two weeks will change nothing.

How did we turn the September findings into today's Mentem?
